SIA Refresher Training Manchester: Renew Your Licence

SIA Refresher Training Manchester puts your licence renewal and your First Aid on a single booking, at one address, in one short visit. No bouncing between training providers, no half-finished paperwork. You turn up, you train, and you leave ready to renew, whether your card says Door Supervisor, Security Guard, or you’re switching from one to the other.

Two Courses, One Centre: Which One Is Yours?

Start by working out which refresher applies to you. It comes down to the licence you currently carry, or the one you’re upgrading to:

  • Hold a Door Supervisor licence? You’ll take the two-day Door Supervisor refresher.
  • Hold a Security Guard licence? You’ll take the one-day Security Guard refresher.
  • Changing lanes? Book the refresher for the role you’re heading into, not the one you’re leaving.

Door Supervisor Refresher: Two Days (9:00 AM to 6:30 PM)

Two days, split between classroom updates and physical, get-on-your-feet practice. The Door Supervisor refresher is built from two units.

Unit 1: Core Duties on the Door
What you’ll cover:

  • Searching people and bags properly, and within the law
  • Spotting and protecting anyone who’s vulnerable
  • Reading the signs of a terror threat and knowing how to respond
  • Shutting down spiking from drink or drugs before it happens

How you’re checked: a 35-question multiple-choice paper (55 minutes) plus a hands-on search test.

Unit 2: Hands-On Physical Intervention
What you’ll cover:

  • Where the real risks sit when you have to put hands on someone
  • Keeping harm to a minimum if intervention can’t be avoided
  • Protecting yourself and staying safe in the moment
  • Safe, no-pain control and escort techniques

How you’re checked: a 30-question multiple-choice paper (45 minutes), a practical intervention test, and a short spoken Q&A.

Security Guard Refresher: One Day (9:00 AM to 5:30 PM)

A single, focused day built around one unit. The Security Guard refresher keeps things tight.

Unit 1: Your Responsibilities as a Security Officer
What you’ll cover:

  • LO1: Carrying out searches the right way
  • LO2: Keeping vulnerable people safe
  • LO3: Understanding terror threats and your role if an emergency kicks off

How you’re checked: a 28-question multiple-choice test (45 minutes) plus a practical search demonstration.

Don’t Forget First Aid: It’s Built In

Here’s the bit officers trip over. You can’t renew through the SIA until you hold a current Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) certificate, and it has to be in place before you sit the refresher, not after. Plenty of people only find this out when their renewal stalls.

This Manchester course removes the problem entirely. First Aid is baked into the price, so you finish with both certificates and nothing left to chase.

What Changed, and Why the Refresher Exists

Since 1 April 2025, the SIA won’t let Door Supervisor or Security Guard renewals go through without an up-to-date refresher first. The reasoning is simple: the regulator wants every working officer, in Manchester and everywhere else, sharp on searching, safeguarding, spotting terror threats and handling physical intervention.

You’re in scope if:

  • Your renewal date falls on or after 1 April 2025.
  • You first qualified before April 2021 and never completed your Top-Up (that window officially closed on 31 March 2025).
  • You’re moving between licence types.

Book early and there’s no awkward gap where you’re unable to work.

The First Aid Update You Should Know About (October 2024)

First Aid training itself was refreshed on 1 October 2024, leaning harder into the skills that genuinely save lives:

  • Stopping catastrophic, life-threatening bleeding
  • Getting an airway open and keeping it that way

It all lines up with Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance, so what you practise in Manchester is right up to date.

Free Add-On: ACT Counter-Terrorism Training

While you’re getting renewal-ready, it’s worth knocking out the free ACT (Action Counters Terrorism) e-learning from ProtectUK. It’s quick, separate and entirely online:
